May 16, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — The North Putnam Community School Corporation took a little more than three months to pass a one-year goal for the number of Putnam RISE Energy Savings Pledges collected within its community.  Since the effort began on Feb. 1, 545 North Putnam households have made pledges.

While securing broad participation across the community, North Putnam continues to be led by Bainbridge Elementary School students, whose families have completed 257 pledges as shown in the chart below.

The Energy Savings Pledges make up one portion of a Putnam RISE Energy Challenge competition among Putnam County school corporations.  The school corporation community with the highest rate of Energy Savings Pledges per student by Dec. 1 will win a $5,000 cash prize.  Visit the Energy Challenge Homes & Communities page for more details on the awards and a  community progress chart showing North Putnam in 1st place followed by the Cloverdale, Greencastle and South Putnam school communities.

A total of 1,106 Putnam County households have made a pledge thus far.

In the other part of the Energy Challenge, Putnam County schools competed during the months of March and April for the greatest energy conservation results in their school facilities.  The School Buildings page details those resulting awards that will be announced at a special event featuring Senator Richard Lugar on June 3 at 11:15 a.m. in the Inn at DePauw (2 West Seminary Street, Greencastle).
